When you think of gaming headsets, you might think of something not so stylish... Same colors, same design, and technically most of them have the same gaming experience.

A few years ago, my husband and I discovered the Razer Kraken Kitty Pink headset , which is unique in many ways. (At the time, it was hard to get hold of in Switzerland). And that's exactly what a gamer girl like me needs! :)

The Razer Kraken Kitty Edition is a wired USB gaming headset with customizable lighting, THX Spatial Audio, awesome cooling gel ear cushions, and some great streaming features.

Razer Kraken Kitty Design

It absolutely makes you feel like a gamer girl . If you know the Razer Kraken, the rest of the design will probably be very familiar. The earcups have the Razer logo on both sides, and they are of course RGB. There is also a pulsing RGB light on each earcup around the Razer logo.

The entire exterior of the headset is pink, and while the earcups are inexplicably made of plastic, the band itself is metal, meaning it won't break if you drop it.

The entire padding is a grey colour that doesn't really match the pink exterior, but somehow it works anyway. The padding itself is extremely soft on top and the ear pads are equipped with a cooling gel so that you don't sweat too much during intense sessions.

The Razer Kraken Kitty Edition has just one button that turns on THX Spatial Audio and a volume control. That's pretty minimal, but since it's not a wireless headset, it doesn't need much more. We would have liked a microphone mute, though. To mute the microphone, you have to push it back into the headset.

And, yes, you read that right, the mic is retractable, which is a solid plus for us. We've played with hundreds of headsets and still think this is the best solution for a gaming headset mic: it doesn't get lost like a detachable mic and doesn't stick out when not in use.

All of the lighting can be controlled via Razer Synapse, which isn't too surprising, but you'll need to download additional software if you want to take advantage of its unique features.

One of the big selling points of the Razer Kraken Kitty Edition is the ability to let your streaming audience interact with the device. Razer's Streamer Companion app lets you connect your Twitch account so the headset reacts to certain things in your stream. For example, when you get a follow, you can configure the Razer Kraken Kitty Edition to trigger custom lighting effects that your audience can see in real time.

Razer Kraken Kitty Features

You might think it has a cool design too, but it doesn't sound that great. Now I have to disappoint you :)

The headset is equipped with 50mm drivers, so it's no surprise that it sounds good for most content. The bonus for us, though, is that they're not bad for listening to music either. Most gaming headsets are way too bass-heavy, making anything other than video games and some movies sound awful, but this headset has a nice, balanced sound that doesn't overwhelm.

And that's while still sounding great in games. We've gotten a little too immersed in Call of Duty: Warzone or Days Gone, and that incredibly immersive game sounds great here. Whether it's explosive combat or the sounds of wildlife, everything sounds great here.

Voices sound great here too, which isn't a huge surprise. What is surprising, however, is how good the mic sounds. Our voice came through nice and clear in Discord, and our friends even commented on how it sounds. We wouldn't go so far as to say it's good enough to use as a streaming mic, but if you're in a pinch, it will actually work.

Razer Kraken Kitty Summary

The Razer Kraken Kitty Edition might actually be one of the best headsets out there right now. It's mid-range in price and while it's not wireless, that means there's one less point of failure in your streaming system. The sound quality is also fantastic for the money you pay, so you don't have to compromise. It's worked perfectly for me too, for over 3 years.

Have fun playing and being a gamergirl! :)

Best regards

Anita
